English Translation

Hasan narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, from Musa ibn Wardan, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a Friday, and a Bedouin entered while the Prophet ﷺ was on the minbar. He said: 'A destitute man asks you, so teach him.' the Prophet ﷺ said: 'O people, fear Allah! And no matter how much wealth one of you has, let him begin with himself. Then let him give charity.' Then the man gave from the lower garment and the upper garment, and the Prophet ﷺ did not stop until we saw two piles — one of food and one of clothing. The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ lit up as if it were gilded, and he said: 'Whoever initiates a good practice in Islam and it is acted upon after him, he shall have the reward of it and the reward of those who act upon it, without their rewards being diminished in any way. And whoever initiates an evil practice in Islam and it is acted upon after him, he shall bear its burden and the burden of those who act upon it, without their burdens being diminished in any way.'
