English Translation
Hasan narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, Ibn Hubayrah narrated to us, from Hanash ibn 'Abdullah, that he heard Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) say: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in the Dhuhr prayer, then he took his place on the minbar and we sat around him. He said: 'What I fear for you after me is the flowering beauty and adornment of the world that will be opened up for you.' A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, does good bring evil?' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained silent. It was said to the man: 'What is wrong with you? You are speaking to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he does not respond to you.' We noticed that revelation was descending upon him. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiped the sweat [from his forehead] and said: 'Where is the questioner?' — as though he praised him — 'Indeed, good does not bring evil. What this spring grows sometimes kills by bloating or brings close to death, except the animal that eats al-khadir, and when its sides are full, it faces the sun and defecates and urinates, then chews its cud and returns to graze. This wealth is green and sweet. Blessed is the wealth of a Muslim, from which he gives to the poor, the orphan, and the wayfarer. And whoever takes it without right, he is like the one who eats but is never satisfied. It will be a witness against him on the Day of Resurrection.'
