Hadith #56

English Translation

Harun ibn Ma'ruf narrated to us, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, he said: Haywah narrated to me, Ibn al-Had narrated to me that 'Abdullah ibn Khabbab narrated to them, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'I do not fear for you regarding that which Allah will open up for you of the adornments of the world and its beauty.' A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, does good bring about evil?' the Prophet ﷺ remained silent until we thought he was receiving revelation. Then he wiped the sweat from his forehead and said: 'Where is the questioner?' It was as though he praised him and said: 'Indeed, good does not bring about evil. But among what this spring causes to grow is that which kills by bloating or brings close to death, except the animal that eats al-khadir [green vegetation], and when its flanks are full, it faces the sun and defecates and urinates, then returns to graze. Indeed, this wealth is green and sweet. How excellent is the wealth of a Muslim when it is given to the poor, the orphan, and the wayfarer. Whoever takes it without its right is like the one who eats but is never satisfied, and it will be a witness against him on the Day of Resurrection.'
