حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي وَاقِدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ وَكَانَ وَاقِدٌ مِنْ أَحْسَنِ النَّاسِ وَأَعْظَمِهِمْ وَأَطْوَلِهِمْ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ فَقَالَ لِي مَنْ أَنْتَ قُلْتُ أَنَا وَاقِدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ قَالَ إِنَّكَ بِسَعْدٍ أَشْبَهُ ثُمَّ بَكَى وَأَكْثَرَ الْبُكَاءَ فَقَالَ رَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ عَلَى سَعْدٍ كَانَ مِنْ أَعْظَمِ النَّاسِ وَأَطْوَلِهِمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَيْشًا إِلَى أُكَيْدِرَ دُومَةَ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى رَسُولِ الل

َّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِجُبَّةٍ مِنْ دِيبَاجٍ مَنْسُوجٍ فِيهِ الذَّهَبُ فَلَبِسَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَامَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ أَوْ جَلَسَ فَلَمْ يَتَكَلَّمْ ثُمَّ نَزَلَ فَجَعَلَ النَّاسُ يَلْمِسُونَ الْجُبَّةَ وَيَنْظُرُونَ إِلَيْهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَتَعْجَبُونَ مِنْهَا قَالُوا مَا رَأَيْنَا ثَوْبًا قَطُّ أَحْسَنَ مِنْهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَنَادِيلُ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ أَحْسَنُ مِمَّا تَرَوْنَ

English Translation

Yazid informed us from Muhammad ibn 'Amr who (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that waqid ibn 'Amr ibn Sa'd ibn Mu'adh informed me — and Muhammad said: Waqid was among the most handsome, greatest, and tallest of people — who said: I entered upon Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) and he said: 'Who are you?' I said: 'I am Waqid ibn 'Amr ibn Sa'd ibn Mu'adh.' He said: 'You resemble Sa'd greatly.' Then he wept for a long time and said: 'May Allah have mercy on Sa'd. He was one of the greatest and tallest of people.' Then he said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent an army — or an expedition — and said: If you capture Bijad ibn 'Amir ibn Salma, do not let him go.' They captured him, but they did not know who he was. Anas said: Then the people of Madinah said: The throne of the Most Merciful shook at the death of Sa'd.'
