Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبَانُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَالِسٌ فِي أَصْحَابِهِ إِذْ مَرَّ بِهِمْ يَهُودِ
يٌّ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رُدُّوهُ فَقَالَ كَيْفَ قُلْتَ قَالَ قُلْتُ سَامٌ عَلَيْكُمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا سَلَّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ فَقُولُوا وَعَلَيْكَ أَيْ مَا قُلْتَ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
Yunus narrated to us: Aban narrated to us from Qatadah, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) who said: 'While the Prophet ﷺ of Allah ﷺ was sitting among his companions, a Jew passed by them and greeted them. the Prophet ﷺ said: Bring him back. He was brought back, and the Prophet ﷺ said: Did you say al-samu 'alaykum? He said: Yes. the Prophet ﷺ said: When the People of the Book greet you, say: Wa 'alaykum.'
