English Translation
Waki' narrated from Hammad ibn Salamah, from Abu al-Tayyah, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) who said: The site of the Prophet ﷺ's ﷺ mosque belonged to Banu al-Najjar. It contained palm trees and graves of the polytheists. the Prophet ﷺ said to them: 'Name your price for it.' They said: 'We seek no price for it except from Allah.' the Prophet ﷺ ordered that the palm trees be cut down and the graves of the polytheists be dug up. They leveled the site and arranged the palm tree trunks as the qiblah direction. The doorposts were made of stone. The Companions would recite rajaz poetry while carrying the trunks and stones, and the Prophet ﷺ was with them saying: 'O Allah, there is no good except the good of the Hereafter, so forgive the Ansar and the Muhajirah.'
