English Translation
Anas (رضي الله عنه) narrated: A funeral passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said: "Speak about him [praise or blame]." They said: "As far as we know, he loved Allah and His Messenger," and they praised him well. the Prophet ﷺ said: "It has become obligatory." Then another funeral passed and he said: "Speak about him." They said: "What an evil man he was!" and they spoke ill of him. the Prophet ﷺ said: "It has become obligatory." 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) said: "What has become obligatory?" He said: "This one whom you praised well — Paradise has become obligatory for him. And this one whom you spoke ill of — the Fire has become obligatory for him. You are the witnesses of Allah on earth."
