حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا هَمَّامُ بْنُ يَحْيَى حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو غَالِبٍ الْخَيَّاطُ قَالَ شَهِدْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ صَلَّى عَلَى جِنَازَةِ رَجُلٍ فَقَامَ عِنْدَ رَأْسِهِ فَلَمَّا رُفِعَ أُتِيَ بِجِنَازَةِ امْرَأَةٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ أَوْ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ فَقِيلَ لَهُ يَا أَبَا حَمْزَةَ هَذِهِ جِنَازَةُ فُلَانَةَ ابْنَةِ فُلَانٍ فَصَلِّ عَلَيْهَا فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهَا فَقَامَ وَسَطَهَا وَفِينَا الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الْع
َدَوِيُّ فَلَمَّا رَأَى اخْتِلَافَ قِيَامِهِ عَلَى الرَّجُلِ وَالْمَرْأَةِ قَالَ يَا أَبَا حَمْزَةَ هَكَذَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُومُ مِنْ الرَّجُلِ حَيْثُ قُمْتَ وَمِنْ الْمَرْأَةِ حَيْثُ قُمْتَ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْنَا الْعَلَاءُ فَقَالَ احْفَظُوا

English Translation
Abu Ghalib al-Khayyat (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that i witnessed Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) pray the funeral prayer over a man, and he stood at the head. When the body was taken away, a funeral of a woman from Quraysh or the Ansar was brought. It was said to him: "O Abu Hamzah, this is the funeral of such-and-such woman." He stood at her middle. 'Ala' ibn Ziyad asked him: "Is this how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to stand — at the head for a man and at the middle for a woman?" He said: "Yes."
