Hadith #94

حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ وَعَفَّانُ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ انْطَلَقْتُ بِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ وُلِدَ فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ فِي عَبَاءَةٍ
يَهْنَأُ بَعِيرًا لَهُ فَقَالَ لِي أَمَعَكَ تَمْرٌ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَتَنَاوَلَ تَمَرَاتٍ فَأَلْقَاهُنَّ فِي فِيهِ فَلَاكَهُنَّ فِي حَنَكِهِ فَفَغَرَ الصَّبِيُّ فَاهُ فَأَوْجَرَهُ فَجَعَلَ الصَّبِيُّ يَتَلَمَّظُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَبَتْ الْأَنْصَارُ إِلَّا حُبَّ التَّمْرِ وَسَمَّاهُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ

English Translation
Mu'ammal and 'Affan narrated to us, they said: Hammad narrated to us, Thabit narrated to us, from Anas (رضي الله عنه) who said: I took 'Abdullah ibn Abi Talhah to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he was born. I came to the Prophet ﷺ while he had a branding iron with which he was branding a camel — or marking sheep. He took a date, chewed it, then put it in the baby's mouth and did tahnik for him, and named him 'Abdullah.
