English Translation
Suwayd ibn Amr al-Kalbi narrated to us, Aban narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Anas ibn Malik who said: While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting among his Companions, a Jew passed by them and greeted. After he had passed, he ﷺ called him back and said: "What did you say?" He said: 'I said al-samu alaykum (death be upon you).' the Prophet ﷺ said: "When the People of the Book greet you, say: 'Wa alaykum (and upon you).'"
