حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدْخُلُ عَلَيْنَا وَكَانَ لِي أَخٌ صَغِيرٌ وَكَانَ لَهُ نُغَيْرٌ يَلْعَبُ بِهِ فَمَاتَ نُغَرُهُ الَّذِي كَانَ يَلْعَبُ بِهِ فَدَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ
صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَرَآهُ حَزِينًا فَقَالَ لَهُ مَا شَأْنُ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ حَزِينًا فَقَالُوا مَاتَ نُغَرُهُ الَّذِي كَانَ يَلْعَبُ بِهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ أَبَا عُمَيْرٍ مَا فَعَلَ النُّغَيْرُ

English Translation
Affan narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, Thabit narrated to us, from Anas (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to visit us. I had a young brother who had a little bird (nughayr) he used to play with. The bird died, and the Prophet ﷺ saw him grieving. He said: 'O Abu Umayr, what happened to the little bird (nughayr)?'
