Hadith #132
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا قَتَادَةُ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ يَهُودِيًّا مَرَّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ السَّامُ عَلَيْكُمْ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيّ
ِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّمَا قَالَ السَّامُ عَلَيْكُمْ فَأُخِذَ الْيَهُودِيُّ فَجِيءَ بِهِ فَاعْتَرَفَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رُدُّوا عَلَيْهِمْ مَا قَالُوا

English Translation
Bahz narrated to us, Hammam narrated to us, he said: Qatadah informed us, from Anas (رضي الله عنه), that a Jew passed by the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions and said: 'Al-sam (death) be upon you.' The Companions of the Prophet ﷺ responded to him. the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Do you know what he said? He said: "Al-sam (death) be upon you."' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, shall we kill him?' He said: 'No. When the People of the Book greet you, say: "And upon you."'
