English Translation
'Abd al-Samad and Abu Sa'id — with the same meaning — narrated to us, both said: Za'idah narrated to us, from 'Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn 'Aqil, from Jabir (رضي الله عنه), who said: "A man died, and we washed him, perfumed him, and shrouded him. Then we brought him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'Pray over him.' He took a few steps, then said: 'Does he have any debt?' We said: 'Two dinars.' He turned back. Abu Qatadah took them upon himself and said: 'The two dinars are upon me.' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The creditor's claim has been settled and the deceased is cleared of it?' He said: 'Yes.' So the Prophet ﷺ prayed over him. Then the next day he said to Abu Qatadah: 'What happened with the two dinars?' He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, he only died yesterday!' The next day he came back and said: 'I have paid them.' the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Now his skin has cooled (i.e., now he is at rest from the burden of debt).'"
