English Translation

Musa narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir ibn Abdullah (رضي الله عنهما) — that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ conquered Hunayn, he sent out raiding parties, and they brought back camels and sheep. He distributed them among the people and gave the Muhajirun and the Ansar nothing. The Ansar spoke about this among themselves, saying: 'When there is hardship, we are called, but the spoils go to others.' the Prophet ﷺ heard of it and gathered them and said: 'Are you not pleased that the people return with sheep and camels while you return with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to your homes? The Ansar are the inner garment and the people are the outer garment. Were it not for the Hijrah, I would have been a man of the Ansar.'
