English Translation

Musa narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, from Abu al-Zubayr who said: I asked Jabir about [the Pledge of] al-Aqabah. He said: Seventy attended it. the Prophet ﷺ met them, and al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib was holding his hand. the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Take me [give me your pledge] on the condition that you protect me as you protect your women and children.' Jabir said: 'So we pledged allegiance to him on that. A man who was among the youngest of them said: O Messenger of Allah, we have covenants with these people — meaning the Jews. Shall we break them?' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled and said: 'Your blood is my blood, your destruction is my destruction. I am of you and you are of me. I fight whom you fight and I make peace with whom you make peace.'
