Hadith #99

حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ أَنَّ أُمَّ مَالِكٍ الْبَهْزِيَّةَ كَانَتْ تُهْدِي فِي عُكَّةٍ لَهَا سَمْنًا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَبَيْنَا بَنُوهَا يَسْأَلُونَهَا الْإِدَامَ وَلَيْسَ عِنْدَهَا شَيْءٌ فَعَمَدَتْ إِلَى عُكَّتِهَا الَّتِي كَانَتْ تُهْدِي فِيهَا
إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَوَجَدَتْ فِيهَا سَمْنًا فَمَا زَالَ يَدُومُ لَهَا أُدْمُ بَنِيهَا حَتَّى عَصَرَتْهُ وَأَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ أَعَصَرْتِيهِ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ لَوْ تَرَكْتِيهِ مَا زَالَ ذَلِكَ لَكِ مُقِيمًا

English Translation
Hasan narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, Abu al-Zubayr narrated to us, from Jabir (رضي الله عنه) — that Umm Malik al-Bahziyyah used to gift clarified butter (samn) in a small leather container to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. While her sons were asking her for cooking fat and she had nothing, she went to the container in which she used to gift to the Prophet ﷺ, and she found it full. So she kept using it to cook for her children for a long time, until she squeezed it [to get the last of it], so she came to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned it. He said: 'Did you squeeze it?' She said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Had you left it, it would have continued [to produce].'
