Hadith #22

حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مُحَارِبِ بْنِ دِثَارٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ قَالَ تَزَوَّجْتُ فَقَالَ لِي النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا تَزَوَّجْتَ قَالَ
قُلْتُ تَزَوَّجْتُ ثَيِّبًا فَقَالَ مَا لَكَ وَلِلْعَذَارَى وَلِعَابِهَا قَالَ شُعْبَةُ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِعَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَابِرًا يَقُولُ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَفَهَلَّا جَارِيَةً تُلَاعِبُهَا وَتُلَاعِبُكَ حَدَّثَنَاهُمَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ يَعْنِي شَاذَانَ الْمَعْنَى

English Translation
Hashim ibn al-Qasim narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Muharib ibn Dithar, who said: I heard Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari (رضي الله عنهما) say: I married, and the Prophet ﷺ said to me: 'What did you marry?' I said: 'I married a previously-married woman.' He said: 'Why not a young virgin? You could play with her and she could play with you.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have sisters, and I wanted to marry a woman who could comb their hair and take care of them.' He said: 'You will arrive (in Madinah), so when you arrive, tend to your wife (so that you may have a child).'
