English Translation

Abū ʿUbaydah, meaning al-Ḥaddād, narrated to us, saying: Abān, meaning al-ʿAṭṭār, narrated to us, from Budayl, from Abū ʿAṭiyyah, from Mālik ibn al-Ḥuwayirth (رضي الله عنه) who said: He visited us at our mosque. He said: The iqāmah was called and they said: 'Lead us in prayer, may Allāh have mercy on you.' He said: 'Let one of you lead the prayer and I will pray [behind him]. I will tell you why I will not lead you: I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: Whoever visits a people, let him not lead them in prayer. Let one of them lead them.'
