Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ حَدَّثَنَا زَبَّانُ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَهُ فَقَالَ أَيُّ الْجِهَادِ أَعْظَمُ أَجْرًا قَالَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لِلَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى ذِكْرًا قَالَ فَأَيُّ الصَّائِمِينَ أَعْظَمُ أَجْرًا قَالَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لِلَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى ذِكْرًا ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ لَنَا الصَّلَاةَ وَالزَّكَاةَ
وَالْحَجَّ وَالصَّدَقَةَ كُلُّ ذَلِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لِلَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى ذِكْرًا فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ لِعُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ يَا أَبَا حَفْصٍ ذَهَبَ الذَّاكِرُونَ بِكُلِّ خَيْرٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَجَلْ

English Translation
Ḥasan narrated to us: Ibn Lahīʿah narrated to us: Zabbān narrated to us, from Sahl ibn Muʿādh, from his father [Muʿādh ibn Anas al-Juhanī] (رضي الله عنه), from the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ that a man asked him: 'Which jihād has the greatest reward?' He ﷺ said: 'The one who remembers Allāh the most, Blessed and Exalted.' Then he said: 'Which one fasting has the greatest reward?' He ﷺ said: 'The one who remembers Allāh the most.' Then he mentioned prayer, zakāh, charity, and ḥajj — and for each one the Prophet ﷺ said: 'The one who remembers Allāh the most.'
