حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ ذَكَرَهُ عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ نَوْفَلِ بْنِ مُسَاحِقَ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ وَجَدُّهُ بَدْرِيٌّ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ مُزَيْنَةَ يُقَالُ لَهُ ابْنُ عِصَامٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَل
َّمَ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا بَعَثَ السَّرِيَّةَ يَقُولُ إِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ مَسْجِدًا أَوْ سَمِعْتُمْ مُنَادِيًا فَلَا تَقْتُلُوا أَحَدًا قَالَ ابْنُ عِصَامٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ بَعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ

English Translation
Sufyān narrated to us. ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Nawfal ibn Musāḥiq mentioned it. Sufyān said: His grandfather was a Badrī. From a man of Muzaynah called Ibn ʿIṣām, from his father (رضي الله عنه) — who was among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ — that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Allāh, the Mighty and Majestic, sends you all a greeting and says: Will you not go out and fight? Whoever fights in My cause, I guarantee for him — that is, I will compensate him — if I take his soul, he enters Paradise. And if I return him, he returns with reward or spoils.'
