English Translation
Makkī ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us: al-Juʿayd narrated to us, from Yazīd ibn Khuṣayfah, from al-Sāʾib ibn Yazīd (رضي الله عنه) who said: The drinker [of alcohol] used to be brought to us during the time of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, during the leadership of Abū Bakr, and at the beginning of ʿUmar's caliphate. We would strike him with our hands, sandals, and garments. Then at the end of ʿUmar's caliphate, he prescribed forty lashes. And when they became disobedient and corrupt, he prescribed eighty lashes.
