ʿAbd al-Razzāq and Ibn Bakr narrated to us, they said: Ibn Jurayj informed us, he said: Ibn Shihāb narrated to me that ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbdillāh ibn Kaʿb ibn Mālik narrated to him from his father ʿAbdullāh ibn Kaʿb, and from his uncle ʿUbaydullāh ibn Kaʿb — and both were among the most knowledgeable of the Anṣār — from Kaʿb ibn Mālik, who narrated about the night when Allāh accepted his repentance. He said: I had stayed behind from the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ in the expedition of Tabūk, and I had never stayed behind from him in any expedition he undertook except for the expedition of Tabūk — though I had also stayed behind from Badr, and no one who stayed behind from Badr was reproached, for the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ had only gone out seeking the caravan of Quraysh.
