حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ قَالَتْ أُمُّ مُبَشِّرٍ لِكَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ وَهُوَ شَاكٍ اقْرَأْ عَلَى ابْنِي السَّلَامَ تَعْنِي مُبَشِّرًا فَقَالَ يَغْفِرُ اللَّهُ لَكِ يَا أُمَّ مُبَشِّرٍ أَوَلَمْ تَ
سْمَعِي مَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّمَا نَسَمَةُ الْمُسْلِمِ طَيْرٌ تَعْلُقُ فِي شَجَرِ الْجَنَّةِ حَتَّى يُرْجِعَهَا اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِلَى جَسَدِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ قَالَتْ صَدَقْتَ فَأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ

English Translation
ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us, he said: Maʿmar narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Kaʿb ibn Mālik, who said: Umm Mubashshir said to Kaʿb ibn Mālik while he was ill: 'Convey greetings of peace to my son' — meaning Mubashshir. Kaʿb said: 'May Allāh forgive you, O Umm Mubashshir! Have you not heard what the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said?' She asked: 'What did he say?' He said: 'The souls of the believers are only birds clinging to the trees of Paradise until Allāh عز وجل returns them to their bodies on the Day of Resurrection.' She said: 'Of course, Allāh and His Messenger know best.'
