Hadith #247
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا هَيْثَمُ بْنُ خَارِجَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّد
ُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ بْنِ حَلْبَسٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي سَمِعَ خُرَيْمَ بْنَ فَاتِكٍ الْأَسَدِيَّ يَقُولُ أَهْلُ الشَّامِ سَوْطُ اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ يَنْتَقِمُ بِهِمْ مِمَّنْ يَشَاءُ كَيْفَ يَشَاءُ وَحَرَامٌ عَلَى مُنَافِقِيهِمْ أَنْ يَظْهَرُوا عَلَى مُؤْمِنِيهِمْ وَلَنْ يَمُوتُوا إِلَّا هَمًّا أَوْ غَيْظًا أَوْ حُزْنًا

English Translation
Haytham ibn Khārijah narrated to us: Muḥammad ibn Ayyūb ibn Maysarah ibn Ḥalbas narrated to us, he said: I heard my father, who heard Khuraym ibn Fātik al-Asadī say: 'The people of al-Shām are Allāh's whip on earth. He takes vengeance through them upon whomever He wills, however He wills. It is forbidden for their hypocrites to prevail over their believers, and they shall not die except in grief or sorrow.'
