English Translation
Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd narrated to us, Hishām — meaning al-Dastuwāʾī — narrated to us, Yaḥyā ibn Abī Kathīr narrated to us, from Hilāl ibn Abī Maymūnah, ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār narrated to us: that Rifāʿah al-Juhanī narrated to him, saying: We were traveling with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ until we were at al-Kadīd — or he said Qudayd. Men began asking permission to go to their families, and permission was given to them. He praised Allāh and extolled Him, spoke well, and said: 'I testify before Allāh — no servant who testifies that there is no god but Allāh and that Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allāh, sincerely from his heart, and then acts rightly, will die except that he shall enter Paradise.' Then he said: 'My Lord has promised me that seventy thousand of my ummah will enter without reckoning. I hope they will not enter it until you and whoever is righteous among your wives and offspring have settled in dwellings in Paradise.' He also said: 'When half the night passes — or a third of the night — Allāh عز وجل descends to the lowest heaven and says: "I do not ask anyone besides Myself about My servants. Who is seeking My forgiveness so that I may forgive him? Who is calling upon Me so that I may answer him? Who is asking Me so that I may give him?" — until the dawn breaks.'
