Arabic Text
قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ قَالَ كَانَ يَقُولُ فِي خِلَا
فَةِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ لَا يَمُوتُ عُثْمَانُ حَتَّى يُسْتَخْلَفَ قُلْنَا مِنْ أَيْنَ تَعْلَمُ ذَلِكَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ رَأَيْتُ اللَّيْلَةَ فِي الْمَنَامِ كَأَنَّهُ ثَلَاثَةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِي وُزِنُوا فَوُزِنَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَوَزَنَ ثُمَّ وُزِنَ عُمَرُ فَوَزَنَ ثُمَّ وُزِنَ عُثْمَانُ فَنَقَصَ صَاحِبُنَا وَهُوَ صَالِحٌ

English Translation
Abū al-Naḍr narrated to us, he said: Shaybān narrated to us, from Ashʿath, from al-Aswad ibn Hilāl, from a man of his people, he said: He used to say during the caliphate of ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb رضي الله عنه: ʿUthmān will not die before being appointed caliph. We said: How do you know that? He said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: I saw last night in a dream as though three of my Companions were weighed. Abū Bakr was weighed and was heavy, then ʿUmar was weighed and was heavy, then ʿUthmān was weighed and fell short — yet our companion is righteous.
