English Translation

ʿAbdullāh said: Abū Mūsā al-ʿAnazī narrated to me, he said: ʿAbd al-Ṣamad ibn ʿAbd al-Wārith narrated to us, he said: Sakan ibn al-Mughīrah narrated to me, he said: al-Walīd ibn Abī Hishām narrated to me, from Farqad Abū Ṭalḥah, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Khabbāb al-Sulamī, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ came out and urged the outfitting of the Army of Hardship (Tabūk). ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān said, 'I pledge one hundred camels with their saddle-blankets and pack-saddles.' Then he urged again, and ʿUthmān said, 'I pledge another one hundred with their saddle-blankets and pack-saddles.' Then he descended a step from the pulpit and urged again, and ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān said, 'I pledge another one hundred with their saddle-blankets and pack-saddles.' I saw the Prophet ﷺ moving his hand like this, gesturing. ʿAbd al-Ṣamad extended his hand in astonishment, saying: 'Nothing ʿUthmān does after this can harm him. Nothing ʿUthmān does after this can harm him.' ʿAbdullāh said: Abū Mūsā al-ʿAnazī narrated to me, he said: ʿUthmān ibn ʿUmar narrated to us, he said: Sakan ibn al-Mughīrah narrated to us, he said: al-Walīd ibn Hishām narrated to us, from Abū Ṭalḥah, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Khabbāb al-Sulamī, who said: I saw the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ deliver a sermon urging the Army of Hardship, and he mentioned the same.
