Hadith #329

قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ
قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جُبَيْرُ بْنُ مُطْعِمٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمْ يَقْسِمْ لِعَبْدِ شَمْسٍ وَلَا لِبَنِي نَوْفَلٍ مِنْ الْخُمُسِ شَيْئًا كَمَا كَانَ يَقْسِمُ لِبَنِي هَاشِمٍ وَبَنِي الْمُطَّلِبِ وَأَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ كَانَ يَقْسِمُ الْخُمُسَ نَحْوَ قَسْمِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ يُعْطِي قُرْبَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَمَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُعْطِيهِمْ وَكَانَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يُعْطِيهِمْ وَعُثْمَانُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ مِنْهُ

English Translation
ʿUthmān ibn ʿUmar narrated to us, he said: Yūnus narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyab, who said: Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim narrated to us that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ did not allot to ʿAbd Shams or to Banū Nawfal anything from the one-fifth (khumus) as he used to allot to Banū Hāshim and Banū al-Muṭṭalib. Abū Bakr used to distribute the khumus in the manner of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, except that he did not give the kinship share of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ as the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ used to give them. ʿUmar رضي الله عنه used to give them, and ʿUthmān after him from it.
