حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي جُبَيْرُ بْنُ مُطْعِمٍ أَنَّهُ جَاءَ وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ يُكَلِّمَانِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيمَا قَسَمَ مِنْ خُمُسِ حُنَيْنٍ بَيْنَ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ وَبَنِي الْمُطّ
َلِبِ فَقَالَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَسَمْتَ لِإِخْوَانِنَا بَنِي الْمُطَّلِبِ وَبَنِي عَبْدِ مَنَافٍ وَلَمْ تُعْطِنَا شَيْئًا وَقَرَابَتُنَا مِثْلُ قَرَابَتِهِمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّمَا أَرَى هَاشِمًا وَالْمُطَّلِبَ شَيْئًا وَاحِدًا قَالَ جُبَيْرٌ وَلَمْ يَقْسِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِبَنِي عَبْدِ شَمْسٍ وَلَا لِبَنِي نَوْفَلٍ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْخُمُسِ كَمَا قَسَمَ لِبَنِي هَاشِمٍ وَبَنِي الْمُطَّلِبِ

English Translation
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated to us, he said: ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Mubārak narrated to me, from Yūnus ibn Yazīd, from al-Zuhrī, who said: Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyab informed me, he said: Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim narrated to me that he and ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān came to speak to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ about what he had distributed from the one-fifth of Ḥunayn between Banū Hāshim and Banū al-Muṭṭalib. They said, 'O Messenger of Allāh, you distributed to our brothers Banū al-Muṭṭalib and Banū ʿAbd Manāf and did not give us anything, though our kinship is like their kinship.' The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: 'I only see Hāshim and al-Muṭṭalib as one and the same.' Jubayr said: And the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ did not allot to Banū ʿAbd Shams or Banū Nawfal anything from that one-fifth as he allotted to Banū Hāshim and Banū al-Muṭṭalib.
