Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ
قَالَ قَدِمَ مُعَاوِيَةُ الْمَدِينَةَ فَخَطَبَنَا وَأَخْرَجَ كُبَّةً مِنْ شَعَرٍ فَقَالَ مَا كُنْتُ أَرَى أَنَّ أَحَدًا يَفْعَلُهُ إِلَّا الْيَهُودَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَلَغَهُ فَسَمَّاهُ الزُّورَ أَوْ الزِّيرَ شَكَّ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ

English Translation
Muʿāwiyah narrated — via Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyab — : Muʿāwiyah came to Madīnah and addressed us. He took out a ball of hair and said: 'I did not think anyone did this except the Jews. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ heard about it and called it al-zūr [falsehood]' — or al-zīr — Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar was uncertain.
