حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ مُرَّةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيَّبِ قَالَ خَطَبَ مُعَاوِيَةُ عَلَى
مِنْبَرِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ مِنْبَرِ الْمَدِينَةِ فَأَخْرَجَ كُبَّةً مِنْ شَعَرٍ قَالَ مَا كُنْتُ أَرَى أَنَّ أَحَدًا يَفْعَلُ هَذَا غَيْرَ الْيَهُودِ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَمَّاهُ الزُّورَ

English Translation
Muʿāwiyah narrated — via Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyab — : Muʿāwiyah addressed the people on the minbar of the Prophet ﷺ — or the minbar of Madīnah — and took out a ball of hair. He said: 'I did not think anyone did this except the Jews. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ called it al-zūr [falsehood].'
