Hadith #570

English Translation

Rawḥ narrated to us, he said: Hishām ibn Abī ʿAbdillāh narrated to us, from Qatādah, from Sālim ibn Abī al-Jaʿd, from Maʿdān ibn Abī Ṭalḥah, from Abū Najīḥ al-Sulamī who said: We besieged with the Prophet ﷺ of Allāh ﷺ the fortress of al-Ṭāʾif, and I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ saying: "Whoever reaches the enemy with an arrow, he has a degree in Paradise." He said: That day I reached the enemy with sixteen arrows. And I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ saying: "Whoever shoots an arrow in the path of Allāh عز وجل, it is the equivalent of freeing a slave. Whoever grows a grey hair in the path of Allāh, it will be a light for him on the Day of Resurrection. And any Muslim man who frees a Muslim man — Allāh عز وجل will make every bone of the freed person a ransom for every bone of his from the Fire. And any Muslim woman who frees a Muslim woman — Allāh عز وجل will make every bone of the freed woman a ransom for every bone of hers from the Fire."
