Hadith #574

English Translation

Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Yaʿlā ibn ʿAṭāʾ, from Yazīd ibn Ṭalq, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Baylamānī, from ʿAmr ibn ʿAbasah who said: I came to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allāh, who accepted Islam?" He said: "A free man and a slave." I said: "Is there an hour closer to Allāh تعالى than another?" He said: "The last part of the night. Pray as much as you wish until you pray the morning prayer. Then refrain until the sun rises and while it is still like a shield, until it spreads. Then pray as much as you wish until the pole's shadow stands upright. Then refrain until the sun passes its zenith, for Jahannam is stoked at midday. Then pray as much as you wish until you pray ʿAṣr. Then refrain until the sun sets, for it sets between the two horns of Shayṭān and rises between the two horns of Shayṭān. When a servant performs wuḍūʾ and washes his hands, his sins fall from his hands. When he washes his face, his sins fall from his face. When he washes his forearms and wipes his head, his sins fall from his forearms and head. When he washes his feet, his sins fall from his feet. When he stands for prayer, with his heart and his face — or all of him — directed toward Allāh عز وجل, he departs as the day his mother bore him." He was asked: "Did you hear this yourself from the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ?" He said: "Had I not heard it once or twice or ten or twenty times, I would not have narrated it."
