Ibn Numayr narrated to us, from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd, from Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā — and Yazīd said: Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd narrated to us, from Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā — from Ibn Abī ʿAmrah, from Abū ʿAmrah, the freedman of Zayd ibn Khālid al-Juhanī: that he heard Zayd ibn Khālid al-Juhanī narrating that a man from the Muslims died at Khaybar. It was mentioned to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, and he said: "Pray over your companion." The people's faces changed at that. When he saw what was troubling them, he said: "Your companion committed ghulūl (embezzlement of war spoils) in the path of Allāh." So we searched his belongings and found beads from the beads of the Jews, not worth even two dirhams.
