Hadith #92

قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ يَزِيدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ الْأَكْوَعِ قَالَ كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأُتِيَ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَقَالُوا يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلِّ عَلَيْهَا قَالَ هَلْ تَرَكَ شَيْئًا قَالُوا لَا قَالَ هَلْ تَرَكَ عَلَيْهِ دَيْنًا قَالُوا لَا فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ أُتِيَ بِجَنَازَةٍ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ هَلْ تَرَكَ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ دَيْنٍ قَالُوا لَا قَا
لَ هَلْ تَرَكَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ قَالُوا ثَلَاثَ دَنَانِيرَ قَالَ ثَلَاثُ كَيَّاتٍ قَالَ فَأُتِيَ بِالثَّالِثَةِ فَقَالَ هَلْ تَرَكَ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ دَيْنٍ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ هَلْ تَرَكَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ قَالُوا لَا قَالَ صَلُّوا عَلَى صَاحِبِكُمْ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَلَيَّ دَيْنُهُ فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd narrated to us, from Yazīd, he said: Salamah ibn al-Akwaʿ narrated to us, who said: I was with the Prophet ﷺ when a funeral was brought. They said: O Prophet of Allāh, pray over him. He said: "Did he leave anything?" They said: No. He said: "Did he leave any debt?" They said: No. So he prayed over him. Then another funeral was brought after that. He said: "Did he leave any debt upon him?" They said: No. He said: "Did he leave anything?" They said: Three dīnārs. He said: "Three burns!" Then a third was brought. He said: "Did he leave any debt upon him?" They said: Yes. He said: "Did he leave anything?" They said: No. He said: "Pray over your companion." A man from the Anṣār — said to be Abū Qatādah — said: O Messenger of Allāh, his debt is upon me. So he prayed over him.
