حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ وَيَزِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ حَدَّثَنِي بَحِيرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ حَدَّثَنَا جُبَيْرُ بْنُ نُفَيْرٍ أَنَّ عُمَرَ الْجُمَعِيَّ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ
رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِعَبْدٍ خَيْرًا اسْتَعْمَلَهُ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ فَسَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ الْقَوْمِ مَا اسْتَعْمَلَهُ قَالَ يَهْدِيهِ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِلَى الْعَمَلِ الصَّالِحِ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ ثُمَّ يَقْبِضُهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ

English Translation
Ḥaywah ibn Shurayḥ and Yazīd ibn ʿAbd Rabbih narrated to us, they said: Baqiyyah ibn al-Walīd narrated to us: Baḥīr ibn Saʿd narrated to me, from Khālid ibn Maʿdān: Jubayr ibn Nufayr narrated to us that ʿUmar al-Jumaʿī narrated to him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When Allah intends good for a servant, He employs him before his death.' A man from the people asked: 'What does employs him mean?' He said: 'Allah عز وجل guides him to righteous deeds before his death, then takes him upon that.'
