حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ بَعْضُ مَنْ شَهِدَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِخَيْبَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِرَجُلٍ مِمَّنْ مَعَهُ إِنَّ هَذَا لَمِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَلَمَّا حَضَرَ الْقِتَالُ قَاتَلَ الرَّجُلُ أَشَدَّ الْقِتَالِ حَتَّى كَثُرَتْ بِهِ الْجِرَاحُ فَأَتَاهُ رِجَالٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَرَأَيْتَ الرَّجُلَ الَّذِي ذَكَرْتَ أَنَّهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَقَدْ وَاللَّ
هِ قَاتَلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَشَدَّ الْقِتَالِ وَكَثُرَتْ بِهِ الْجِرَاحُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَا إِنَّهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ وَكَادَ بَعْضُ النَّاسِ أَنْ يَرْتَابَ فَبَيْنَمَا هُمْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ وَجَدَ الرَّجُلُ أَلَمَ الْجِرَاحِ فَأَهْوَى بِيَدِهِ الرَّجُلُ إِلَى كِنَانَتِهِ فَانْتَزَعَ مِنْهَا سَهْمًا فَانْتَحَرَ بِهِ فَاشْتَدَّ رَجُلٌ مِنْ الْمُسْلِمِينَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ قَدْ صَدَّقَ اللَّهُ حَدِيثَكَ قَدْ انْتَحَرَ فُلَانٌ فَقَتَلَ نَفْسَهُ

English Translation
Yaʿqūb narrated to us: My father narrated to us, from Ṣāliḥ ibn Kaysān, [who] said: Ibn Shihāb informed me: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbdillāh ibn Kaʿb ibn Mālik informed me that some of those who witnessed the Prophet ﷺ at Khaybar informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said about a man among them: 'This one is from the people of the Fire.' When the fighting commenced, the man fought most fiercely until he was covered with wounds. Men from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ came and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, did you see the man you said was from the people of the Fire? By Allah, he fought in the path of Allah most fiercely and was covered with wounds!' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Indeed, he is from the people of the Fire.' Some people nearly doubted. Then while they were in that state, the man felt the pain of his wounds, so he reached into his quiver and drew out an arrow, then killed himself with it. A man from the Muslims rushed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Prophet of Allah, Allah has confirmed your statement — so-and-so has killed himself!'
