حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا رِشْدِينُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ أَيُّوبَ الْغَافِقِيِّ عَنْ بَعْضِ وَلَدِ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ قَالَ نَادَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا عَلَى بَطْنِ امْرَأَتِي فَقُمْتُ وَلَمْ أُنْزِلْ فَاغْتَسَلْتُ وَخَرَجْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللّ
َهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ أَنَّكَ دَعَوْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَلَى بَطْنِ امْرَأَتِي فَقُمْتُ وَلَمْ أُنْزِلْ فَاغْتَسَلْتُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا عَلَيْكَ الْمَاءُ مِنْ الْمَاءِ قَالَ رَافِعٌ ثُمَّ أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ بِالْغُسْلِ

English Translation
Qutaybah ibn Saʿīd narrated to us: Rishdīn ibn Saʿd narrated to us, from Mūsā ibn Ayyūb al-Ghāfiqī, from one of the sons of Rāfiʿ ibn Khadīj, from Rāfiʿ ibn Khadīj, he said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called me while I was upon my wife. I got up without having finished and bathed. I went out to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him: 'You called me and I was upon my wife, so I got up without finishing and bathed.' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'No matter — water (ghusl) is only from water (discharge).' Rāfiʿ said: Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ later commanded us to perform ghusl [in all cases].
