English Translation
ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir narrated: I met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I went to him first and took his hand. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is the salvation in this matter?" He said: "O ʿUqbah, guard your tongue, let your house suffice you, and weep over your sins." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ met me and came to me first, taking my hand, and said: "O ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir, shall I not teach you the best three sūrahs revealed in the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, and the Magnificent Quran?" I said: "Yes, may Allah make me your ransom." He taught me 'Say: He is Allah, the One,' 'Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak,' and 'Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind.' Then he said: "O ʿUqbah, do not forget them, and do not sleep a night without reciting them." He said: I have never forgotten them since he said do not forget them, and I have never slept a night without reciting them. ʿUqbah continued: Then I met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I went to him first, taking his hand. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, tell me of the most virtuous deeds." He said: "O ʿUqbah, maintain ties with the one who cuts you off, give to the one who deprives you, and turn away from the one who wrongs you."
