حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ وَحَدَّثَ مُطَرِّفٌ عَنْ عِيَاضِ بْنِ حِمَارٍ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَرَأَيْتَ الرَّجُلَ يَشْتُمُنِي وَهُوَ أَنْقَصُ مِنِّي نَسَبًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمُسْتَبَّانِ شَيْطَانَانِ يَتَهَاتَرَانِ وَيَتَكَاذَبَانِ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ مُطَرِّف
ِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ عَنْ عِيَاضِ بْنِ حِمَارٍ أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أُعَلِّمَكُمْ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِيكُمْ تَبَعًا لَا يَبْغُونَ أَهْلًا وَذَكَرَ الْكَذِبَ وَالْبُخْلَ قَالَ سَعِيدٌ قَالَ مُطَرِّفٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ الشَّنْظِيرُ الْفَاحِشُ

English Translation
Yūnus narrated to us, Shaybān narrated to us, from Qatādah, who said: And Muṭarrif narrated from ʿIyāḍ ibn Ḥimār that he asked the Prophet ﷺ saying: "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, what do you say about a man who insults me while he is of lower lineage than me?" the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The two who exchange insults are two devils reviling each other and lying against each other." ʿAbd al-Wahhāb narrated to us, Saʿīd informed us, from Qatādah, from Muṭarrif ibn ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Shikhkhīr, from ʿIyāḍ ibn Ḥimār, that the Prophet ﷺ of Allah ﷺ said in one of his sermons: "Indeed Allah عز وجل commanded me to teach you" — and he mentioned the hadith, except that he said: "Those who are among you as followers who do not seek family" — and he mentioned lying and miserliness. Saʿīd said: Muṭarrif said from Qatādah: "Al-shanẓīr means the foul-mouthed person."
