English Translation
Ḥusayn ibn Muḥammad narrated to us, Yazīd — meaning Ibn ʿAṭāʾ — narrated to us, from Yazīd — meaning Ibn Abī Ziyād — from ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Nawfal, who said: ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib ibn Rabīʿah ibn al-Ḥārith ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib narrated to me, saying: "Al-ʿAbbās entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in anger. He said to him: 'What angers you?' He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is the matter between us and the Quraysh? When they meet each other, they meet with cheerful faces, but when they meet us, they meet us otherwise.' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ became angry until his face reddened and a vein swelled between his eyes — and whenever he became angry it would swell. When it subsided, he said: 'By the One in whose hand is my soul' — or he said: 'By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muḥammad — faith does not enter the heart of a man until he loves you for the sake of Allah عز وجل and His Messenger.' Then he said: 'O people, whoever harms al-ʿAbbās has harmed me. Indeed, a man's uncle is the twin of his father.'"
