حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ يَزِيدَ عَنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ قَالَ أَتَى نَاسٌ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالُوا إِنَّا لَنَسْمَعُ مِنْ قَوْمِكَ حَتَّى يَقُولَ الْقَائِلُ مِنْهُمْ إِنَّمَا مِثْلُ مُحَمَّدٍ مِثْلُ نَخْل
َةٍ نَبَتَتْ فِي كِبَاءٍ قَالَ حُسَيْنٌ الْكِبَاءُ الْكُنَاسَةُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَنْ أَنَا قَالُوا أَنْتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ قَالَ فَمَا سَمِعْنَاهُ قَطُّ يَنْتَمِي قَبْلَهَا أَلَا إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ خَلَقَ خَلْقَهُ فَجَعَلَنِي مِنْ خَيْرِ خَلْقِهِ ثُمَّ فَرَّقَهُمْ فِرْقَتَيْنِ فَجَعَلَنِي مِنْ خَيْرِ الْفِرْقَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ جَعَلَهُمْ قَبَائِلَ فَجَعَلَنِي مِنْ خَيْرِهِمْ قَبِيلَةً ثُمَّ جَعَلَهُمْ بُيُوتًا فَجَعَلَنِي مِنْ خَيْرِهِمْ بَيْتًا وَأَنَا خَيْرُكُمْ بَيْتًا وَخَيْرُكُمْ نَفْسًا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

English Translation
Ḥusayn ibn Muḥammad narrated to us, Yazīd ibn ʿAṭāʾ narrated to us, from Yazīd, from ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Nawfal, from ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib ibn Rabīʿah ibn al-Ḥārith ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, who said: "Some people from the Anṣār came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'We hear things from your people, to the point that one of them says: The likeness of Muḥammad is that of a palm tree that grew in a dung heap.'" Ḥusayn said: "Al-kibāʾ means a refuse heap." the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "O people, who am I?" They said: "You are the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." He said: "I am Muḥammad ibn ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib." He said: "We had never heard him trace his lineage before that. Indeed, Allah عز وجل created His creation and placed me among the best of His creation. Then He divided them into two groups and placed me in the better group. Then He made them into tribes and placed me in the best tribe. Then He made them into houses and placed me in the best house. I am the best of you in house and the best of you in person" ﷺ.
