حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ خَلَفٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ الْأَسْوَدَ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْه
ِ وَسَلَّمَ يُبَايِعُ النَّاسَ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ قَالَ جَلَسَ عِنْدَ قَرْنِ مَصْقَلَةَ فَبَايَعَ النَّاسَ عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ قُلْتُ وَمَا الشَّهَادَةُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْأَسْوَدِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ خَلَفٍ أَنَّهُ بَايَعَهُمْ عَلَى الْإِيمَانِ بِاللَّهِ وَشَهَادَةِ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

English Translation
ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us, Ibn Jurayj informed us, ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUthmān ibn Khuthaym informed me, that Muḥammad ibn al-Aswad ibn Khalaf informed him that his father al-Aswad came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was taking the people's pledge on the day of the Conquest. He said: He sat near Qarn Maṣqalah and took the people's pledge on Islam and the testimony. I said: "What is the testimony?" He said: Muḥammad ibn al-Aswad — meaning Ibn Khalaf — informed me that he took their pledge on faith in Allah and testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muḥammad is His servant and Messenger ﷺ.
