English Translation
Ḥasan narrated to us, Ibn Lahīʿah narrated to us, Bakr ibn Sawādah narrated to us, from Ziyād ibn Nuʿaym, from Ḥibbān ibn Buḥḥ al-Ṣudāʾī, a Companion of the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "My people had disbelieved, and I was informed that the Prophet ﷺ had dispatched an army against them. So I came to him and said: 'My people are upon Islam.' He said: 'Is that so?' I said: 'Yes.' I followed him that night until morning. When dawn came, I gave the call to prayer. He gave me a vessel from which I made wuḍūʾ. the Prophet ﷺ placed his fingers in the vessel and water gushed forth like springs. He said: 'Whoever among you wishes to make wuḍūʾ, let him make wuḍūʾ.' So I made wuḍūʾ and prayed. He appointed me as their leader and gave me authority over their charity. Then a man stood before the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'So-and-so has wronged me.' the Prophet ﷺ said: 'There is no good in authority for a Muslim.' Then a man came asking for charity. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: 'Charity is a headache in the head and a burning in the belly — or a disease.' So I gave him my letter — or my letter of authority and charity. He said: 'What is the matter with you?' I said: 'How can I accept it when I have heard from you what I have heard?' He said: 'It is as you heard.'"
