English Translation
Yaʿqūb narrated to us, our father narrated to us, from Ṣāliḥ — and Ibn Shihāb narrated that ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mālik informed him that his father informed him that Surāqah ibn Juʿshum entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the illness in which he died. He said: "I kept asking the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until I could no longer remember what I was asking about. He said: 'Recall it.' Among what I asked him was: 'O Messenger of Allah, stray camels come to my troughs which I have filled with water for my own camels. Do I have reward for watering them?' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Yes, in watering every thirsty liver there is reward for the sake of Allah عز وجل.'"
