English Translation
Ḥasan ibn Mūsā narrated to us, ʿAbdullāh ibn Lahīʿah narrated to us, ʿAyyāsh ibn ʿAbbās narrated to us, from Shiyaym ibn Baytān, from Junādah ibn Abī Umayyah: that he said on the pulpit at Rhodes when he flogged the two men who stole from the people's war spoils: 'Nothing prevented me from cutting them except that Busr ibn Arṭāʾah found a man who stole during a military expedition — called Maṣdar — and he flogged him but did not cut his hand, and said, "the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from cutting [hands] during military expeditions."'
