English Translation

ʿAlī ibn Baḥr narrated to us saying: ʿĪsā ibn Yūnus narrated to us saying: Thawr ibn Yazīd narrated to us, Abū Ḥumayd al-Ruʿaynī narrated to me saying: Yazīd Dhū Miṣr told me saying: I came to ʿUtbah ibn ʿAbd al-Sulamī and said, 'O Abū al-Walīd, I went out seeking a sacrificial animal but found nothing that pleased me except one with a broken tooth. What do you say?' He said, 'Why did you not bring it to me?' I said, 'Glory be to Allah! It would be acceptable from you but not from me?' He said, 'Yes, for you have doubts and I do not. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ only forbade the muṣaffarah — the one whose ear is cut off entirely until its ear canal is exposed — and the mustaʾṣalah — whose horn is broken from its base — and the bakhqāʾ — whose eye is gouged — and the mushayyaʿah — which cannot follow the flock due to emaciation, weakness, and inability — and the kasrāʾ — which has no marrow.' My father [Aḥmad] said: Aḥmad ibn Janāb narrated to me, ʿĪsā ibn Yūnus narrated to us — and he mentioned something similar.
