English Translation

ʿAlī ibn Isḥāq narrated to us saying: ʿAbdullāh — meaning Ibn al-Mubārak — informed us saying: Abū Bakr ibn Abī Maryam informed us, from Ḍamrah ibn Ḥabīb, from Shaddād ibn Aws رضي الله عنه, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "The wise one is he who holds himself accountable and works for what comes after death. And the incapable one is he who follows his desires and merely wishes upon Allāh."
