Hadith #70

English Translation

Muḥammad ibn Abī ʿAdī narrated to us, Ḥusayn — meaning al-Muʿallim — narrated to us, from ʿAbdullāh ibn Buraydah, from Bushayr ibn Kaʿb, from Shaddād ibn Aws رضي الله عنه, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "The master of istighfār is: 'O Allāh, You are my Lord. There is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant. I am upon Your covenant and Your promise as best I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge before You Your blessings upon me, and I acknowledge before You my sin. So forgive me, for none forgives sins but You.' Whoever says it after the morning with certainty and then dies that day will be among the people of Paradise. And whoever says it after the evening with certainty and then dies that night will be among the people of Paradise." ʿAbd al-Ṣamad narrated to us saying: my father narrated to us, Ḥusayn narrated to us, from Ibn Buraydah, who said: Bushayr ibn Kaʿb al-ʿAdawī narrated to me that Shaddād ibn Aws narrated to him that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "The master of istighfār..." and he mentioned the ḥadīth.
