ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated to us saying: Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to us, from Saʿīd ibn Hāniʾ, who said: I heard al-ʿIrbāḍ ibn Sāriyah say: I sold a young camel to the Prophet ﷺ and came to collect the price. I said: "O Messenger of Allāh, pay me the price of my young camel." He said: "Yes, I will only pay you a fine lujay niyyah [an excellent she-camel]." So he paid me and gave me excellent repayment. Then a Bedouin came and said: "O Messenger of Allāh, pay me for my young camel." The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ gave him a mature camel that day. The Bedouin said: "O Messenger of Allāh, this is better than my young camel!" The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "The best of people are the best of them in repaying debts."
